ASQ International is seeking to appoint two experienced accountants to join the accounting department of a prestigious international school in Cologne. These positions are available immediately, and it is essential that candidates bring relevant professional experience along with a strong knowledge of German accounting requirements and regulations (deutsches Steuerrecht). Only applicants with prior experience working within the German accounting system will be considered, as this expertise is critical to the role.

The school

For more than four decades, this international institution in Cologne has supported a diverse community of learners, offering students the opportunity to pursue the dual award within the IB Diploma or IB Careers Programme. What began as a modest initiative has developed into a flourishing school of over 800 pupils, ranging in age from 2 to 18 and representing more than 50 different nationalities. The curriculum is rooted in the National Curriculum, while the Sixth Form provides pathways through both the IB Diploma and the IB Careers Programme, ensuring a broad and enriching educational experience alongside a strong sense of care and community.

The ideal candidate

  • Bachelor’s degree: In Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field; alternatively, an equivalent accounting qualification or apprenticeship with a focus on accountancy (Steuerfachangestellter).
  • Professional experience: Several years of relevant work experience in accounting.
  • German accounting expertise: Strong knowledge of German Tax Law (deutsches Steuerrecht) and the German Commercial Code (Handelsgesetzbuch).
  • Software proficiency: Experience with DATEV (ideally including “Unternehmen online”) or similar accounting software.
  • MS Office skills: Confident use of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Language ability: Advanced German and English language skills in both written and spoken form are desirable (support will be provided).
  • Work style: Independent, reliable, and accurate approach to tasks.
  • Analytical skills: Strong analytical abilities combined with excellent communication skills.
  • Team orientation: Service-oriented mindset and ability to work effectively within a team.

Facts & Figures

Location: Cologne, Germany   

Contract and Duration: 6-month probation period; initial fixed-term contract of 2 years, with the possibility of a permanent contract afterward.

Salary range: Competitive   

Benefits: Free on-site parking and subsidized lunch in the school cafeteria for only €1 per day

Working Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week (Monday to Friday; start time between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m.)
