We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Head of Department – Secondary English to lead and develop the English department from August 2026.

This is a leadership role for a subject specialist in IGCSE and A Level English, combining high-quality classroom teaching with departmental leadership and curriculum development.

Overview

Lead and manage the Secondary English Department, delivering IGCSE and A Level English and ensuring strong academic outcomes. Oversee curriculum planning, assessment, and moderation in line with international standards. Mentor and support English teachers to promote best practice and professional growth. Monitor student progress and drive continuous improvement across the department, while working closely with senior leadership to support whole-school priorities and strategic development.

 

The School

The school is a modern, purpose-built international school offering a bilingual education that combines the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training curriculum with the Oxford International Curriculum (OIC). Their programme emphasises literacy, numeracy, citizenship and practical skills, delivered in an international learning environment with focus on inquiry, creativity and lifelong learning. Classes are small (average ~25 students) and students benefit from a vibrant community and opportunities to develop globally relevant skills.

The ideal candidate

  • Bachelor’s Degree in English, English Literature, Education, or a closely related subject
  • A recognised teaching qualification, such as PGCE or BEd, or a valid teaching license (e.g. QTS, state/provincial license)
  • MA in English, English Literature, Education, or Educational Leadership
  • Minimum 3 years of successful Secondary English teaching experience
  • Evidence of leadership or management training
  • Strong, proven experience teaching IGCSE and A Level English (Oxford or equivalent)
  • Experience with curriculum design, assessment moderation, and exam preparation at senior secondary level
  • Prior experience in an HOD, Subject Lead, or Coordinator role is strongly preferred
  • Experience working in an international school or bilingual environment is an advantage
