An independent school, in Bahrain, for children with mild to moderate learning difficulties is looking for a Secondary SEN Class Teacher to join their nurturing and professional team. 

The school

The Academy provides an individualized education within a nurturing learning environment offering high levels of academic and therapeutic support. At the heart of the school’s ethos is the belief that the development of a positive self-image is the key to the development of a child’s full potential. To this end, the school is committed to providing an educational environment in which all children can experience success. 

Catering for pupils between the ages of 4 and 16 years and beyond who struggle to achieve expected levels of attainment at school, and for whom differentiation or special pupil grouping in mainstream settings is not enough. Some pupils have specific learning needs associated with dyslexia, dyscalculia or dyspraxia. Some have speech and language delay or low levels of concentration and self-esteem.

The role

The role will be teaching a class of 14-16 years with special education needs.  You will provide high-quality education and care for the children and be responsible for the planning and implementation of record keeping system that ensures the effective monitoring of every child’s progress; to contribute to and implement school policies.

Use teaching methods which keep pupils engaged, including stimulating pupils’ intellectual curiosity, effective questioning and response, clear presentation and good use of resources.

Set appropriate expectations for pupils’ behaviour, establishing and maintaining a good standard of discipline through well focused teaching and through positive and productive relationships.

You will also liaise closely with the Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist, Speech and Language Therapists and Behaviour Therapist so that both therapist and special provision can adopt an informed and holistic approach teacher where cognisance is taken of all the education needs of the pupils.

The ideal candidate must have:

  • SEN experience
  • An internationally recognised teaching qualification - Bachelors of Education or PGCE with a BA Degree
  • Qualified Teacher Status
  • Genuine passion for Special Educational Needs
  • Excellent English and Communication Skills
