Overview

An EAL Teacher in Abu Dhabi plays a vital role in supporting students whose first language is not English, helping them develop the linguistic skills necessary to succeed academically and socially in an international school environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Language Development: Deliver tailored lessons that build students’ reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in English.
  • Curriculum Support: Collaborate with subject teachers to adapt materials and ensure accessibility for EAL learners.
  • Assessment: Monitor progress through formative and summative assessments, identifying areas for targeted intervention.
  • Cultural Integration: Support students in adjusting to a multicultural environment, fostering confidence and inclusion.
  • Parental Engagement: Communicate effectively with parents about student progress and strategies for language support at home.

The ideal candidate

  • BEd Degree with a major in English or a Degree in English with Secondary PGCE
  • Proven experience teaching English as an Additional Language in diverse classrooms
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to cultural differences and the ability to thrive in Abu Dhabi’s multicultural environment, supporting students from varied linguistic and cultural backgrounds
  • Works effectively with subject teachers, parents, and school leadership to integrate language support into the wider curriculum and ensure student success.
  • Uses creative teaching strategies, differentiated instruction, and modern educational technology to engage learners and accelerate their English language acquisition.
  • Having taught in the Gulf Region previously would be to your advantage
